Joey broke my glasses Monday. When I found them, they were folded incorrectly and one of the hinges was bent to the point of no longer being functional. I have no idea how he did that to them. I’d had them since December 2001 so it’s not like I didn’t get my money’s worth.
I had my eyes checked last November, but my vision hadn’t really changed so I didn’t get new glasses. But then Steve got new glasses last month and everyone else seems to have rectangles instead of ovals, and I was beginning to feel a little out of fashion. People talk about fashions past – like rolling up your jean cuffs in grade school – and I smile and nod, remembering when everyone did that, but not mentioning that I was never one of the people doing it. [It just seemed like such a pain, re-rolling them all the time so they’d be tight.] Now that I’m a stay-at-home mom, I’m rather out of the loop, so by the time I actually notice that my look is not up to date, I fear I have achieved official oddball status. I don’t want to be an oddball, but I didn’t want to spend $300 just to get new glasses either.
But then Joey broke my old ones, and the place where I had my eyes examined last year (the same place where I bought the long-lasting old ones) said my prescription was good for two years. A mere $178 later, I am no longer an oddball. At least when it comes to the glasses I wear.
[And yes, that is a self-portrait with the camera held in my hand. And yes, I’m wearing St. Brigid which still is not finished – the neckline needs, well, some work, if you know what I mean. Click on the picture to go over to Flickr where you can see pictures of me wearing the sweater in its current unfinished state. The fit is by no means what I was expecting, but I think it will be okay. It’s just the neckline that needs, shall we say, adjustments, before I add the ribbing.]
Nice…
I heard some women (younger than I am) talking in the airport the other day about the fad of rolling jeans and that it’s coming back! Here’s your chance to do it!! (I’m passing and I’m guessing you will, too.)
Cool new glasses! They look nice.
And, about what Liz is saying about the jeans…I rolled them when I was in high school, but I gotta tell you, I won’t be joining that fad this time around!
