My sister had her baby yesterday. Susan Elizabeth. 8 lbs. 3 oz.
She was 7 cm dilated at midnight, got the epidural at 1 a.m., and then Susie did not arrive until 4:45 p.m. Makes me tired just thinking about it. [Labor with Ben was slow and went on forever like that.]
What did I do yesterday? Well, I was expecting Susie to arrive anytime. Lou was updating family via Twitter so I sat at the computer and knit nervously. All day long. The F5 button (aka Refresh) still says F5 which actually amazes me, considering all the times I hit it yesterday.
What did I work on all day? Back when I learned how to knit, I made myself a French Market Bag. Knitting bags have come and gone, but that one is still my favorite. The old standby.
I’m knitting myself a new one. Cascade 220 Plum yarn with Charcoal handles (the latter leftover from the boy’s Cobblestone Pullover Sweaters). It will be officially designated the knitting-for-myself bag so I will always have a project I can work on for myself. Something other than socks. [I have a small knitting bag I use for socks, which always has a project in it.]
It’s really a simple pattern. Square bottom. Straight sides.
But do you think I could knit it correctly?
First I did a spiral bottom. Looks pretty, but not the right thing.
I went back and did the right thing. Look more square to you?
Then when I switched to a circular needle from dpns, I didn’t use the right size so I had to go back and re-do it with the right size.
I finally finished the base and started up the sides. The sides would have been mostly done by now had I done it right in the first place. Oh well!
My old French Market Bag is overflowing with two projects in it. I really do need another knitting bag.
So the baby finally made it…and my French Market Bag will get finished at some point too.
Congratulations to your sister! Did you knit her a baby blanket? 🙂
