Favorite Things, by Caroline

Cookie sheets, cooling racks, pizza pans…and all of the books she could find.

Juneberry II

I already made one of these:

Juneberry Triangle

But alas! The last time I wore it, I noticed a tiny hole forming where a moth apparently nibbled at it. I don’t know whether I shall be able to fix it or not.

Thankfully, when I originally bought the yarn, I was undecided as to color. I loved the Fjord, but the shawl was so pretty knit up in the Ruby Wine as shown in the pattern. So I bought some of both.

Juneberry Triangle II

Now I am knitting a second one in the beautiful Fjord colorway.

I must confess, when I made the first one, I had a terrible time keeping the stitch pattern straight in the first section. In fact, I ended up charting the entire thing in Excel. This time, however, I’m smarter. I used markers to indicate the beginning of the first and end of the last complete repeat of the chart on each half. I used the chart with the pattern only, and no mistakes!

Temptation

Procrastination

I’m supposed to be editing. It’s a charming pattern, really. Not too hard. Pretty to look at.

But I could. not. resist. the Butternut Squash Soup that was sitting in the refrigerator. This is actually bowl two. I’m addicted.

It’s all gone now…so I should be getting that pattern finished real soon.

Read Books

This morning I was so proud of myself. We needed groceries, and I love Starbucks. Usually we do our town day on Wednesday, but since I missed my grocery shopping last weekend, I had just gone on Monday so we didn’t need much of anything. But today we needed to go to the grocery store or I was going to have to see Ben cry again when I didn’t have a tortilla to make his daily bean burrito for lunch.

We got out of the house around 8:25, which I believe is a personal record. The library doesn’t open until 10:00, but since we weren’t going to the library, I could get my shopping done and not have to wait for my Starbucks treat. We went to Starbucks – tall, non-fat Chai Tea Latte and blueberry muffin, thank you – and then turned back and went to the grocery store.

I pulled into the grocery store and started unloading the children from the car. Caroline, in a sweet, pleading voice, said, “Read book? Read book?” Ah, yes, we hadn’t gone to the library, had we? I got tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. I’m such a wimp. I spent the entire time in the grocery store strategizing how I was going to keep the ice cream from melting while we made a quick stop at the library.

Needless to say, we went to the library. Ben has some new books about football. Joey had enjoyed Curious George Plays Baseball and wanted me to find a book about Curious George and football, but alas, I do not think football was such a big sport back when the Curious George stories were written. Caroline has two stories: That’s Not My Tractor and The Story of Peter Rabbit (both board books).

As for the ice cream, when we got home, it was soft, but it hadn’t leaked so I assume it is okay. It’s in the freezer now, and everyone is enjoying their books. Pass the Kindle, please.
