Hi, my name is Tana (that’s like Donna except with a T, okay?) and this is my blog. My personal blog. The one where I talk about the crazy life I lead, including some of the best of our daily adventures.
I’m a SAHM living near Lincoln, Nebraska. I have a great husband – Steve (May 2002) – and two boys – Ben (July 2003) and Joey (October 2006). We have one cat, Nellie, who lives outside. We used to have a dog, but we found another home for her after Ben was born. No other pets, like birds or hamsters or mice or anything.
When I’m not busy keeping house or running my Mary Kay business, I like to knit, play the piano, read blogs, and write in my own blog. I also sew occasionally and aspire to have a vegetable garden. In my former life I also enjoyed cooking, but these days it’s more of a chore than a hobby, with two boys to keep track of and all.
I do have a college degree which I use every day. It’s a B.A. in Humanities with an emphasis on religious studies. It included all sorts of classes from Philosophy of Science to Religion in a Social Context and a bunch of other classes I no longer seem to remember taking. My electives included things like Narrative Writing, Accounting and Physics. You could say I have a well-rounded education, which helps me be the well-rounded person I am today. [See? I do use my degree every day.] My minor was in German, which I would like to use that more than I actually do. Perhaps someday one of my boys will want to learn German, and we can practice it together? It does come in handy when reading German knitting patterns, occasionally. And someday I shall travel to Germany, and hopefully it will come in handy then too.
I love NASCAR, and my other favorite TV show is Special Report with Brit Hume, the evening news show on Fox News Channel (“the Fox” as Ben refers to it) which I am addicted to like a soap opera. I listen to Rush Limbaugh occasionally (only to counter all the liberalism sprinkled in the knitting and mothering blogs I otherwise enjoy reading). Other than that, if you drop by our house, you’ll probably hear classical music playing on the radio (or nothing at all).
When I was a kid, I was a serious bookworm. I still enjoy reading, but I find my ability to concentrate on good books somewhat limited by the little people who also live at our house. There is a place for those fluff novels I used to have, eh? I do love reading the classics (as in, the ones that get referenced all the time) just because I like knowing what they’re talking about. And I do enjoy reading current, literary ficture (not your average trashy novels). But like I said, time and opportunity are lacking most of the time.
I write in this blog mostly for my own entertainment. Seriously. My family seems to enjoy reading it too, especially since they live in other parts of the country that require a trip via airplane in order to see us in person. I have always enjoyed writing – I must confess, the blog genre happens to be one of my favorites. I also enjoy reading blogs, especially blogs with interesting content and good writing.
So enough about me…for now. Glad you stopped by. Come again sometime, okay?
